Make an audio file smaller

Choose the file and how small you want it. The lighter the file, the more sound quality it gives up.

100% safe and privateYour files are not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. 1

Choose the file from your phone or computer.

  2. 2

Pick good, lighter or lightest. The two lighter ones come out in mono.

  3. 3

Listen to the result and download it.

What people use it for

  • Sending by email

An audio file too big for an attachment becomes small enough to send.

  • Messaging apps

A smaller file uploads faster and uses less of the recipient's data.

  • Freeing up space

Long recordings of classes, meetings or podcasts take up much less room on your phone.

  • Publishing on a website

A lighter MP3 loads faster for visitors.

  • Forms with a size limit

Applications, school assignments and contests that only accept files up to a certain size.

Tips for a better result

  1. 01
    Start with "Good".

Most people hear no difference, and the file already shrinks a lot.

  2. 02
    Speech handles more compression.

For classes, meetings and spoken audio, the lighter options work well. They come out in mono.

  3. 03
    Music needs more care.

On the lightest option, music loses a lot. Pick "Good" or "Lighter".

  4. 04
Check the new size before downloading.

The page shows how big the file will be, so you can pick another option if needed.

Common questions

How do I shrink the size of an MP3?

Choose the file and a lower quality. The page shows the new size before you download. A song at 64 kbps is about a third of the size at 192 kbps.

Can it compress a WAV file?

Yes. A WAV is uncompressed, so turning it into an MP3 usually makes it about ten times smaller.

Which size is good for email or WhatsApp?

For voice, the lightest options are more than enough. For music, a middle option keeps the sound pleasant with a much smaller file.

How much smaller does it get?

It depends on the original. A WAV can drop to a tenth of its size. An MP3 that is already light changes little.

Will it sound worse?

On "Good" most people hear no difference. The two lighter options turn the sound into mono. On the lightest one a voice stays clear, but music loses a lot.
